Walking by Faith in the “Real World”

This morning as I was paying for Joel’s school books for the last time I was in awe how God has provided everything we have needed over these past almost 4 years. I have walked by faith trusting God for everything for a decade when we were missionaries. Living on Ships, or living in a warehouse, or living with a friend of ours. God provided for the ministry as well as our personal needs. But when God told us to leave the mission field for Joel to go to school and me to write books and be a Mom, we still had to walk by faith. The Lord told us not to get a full time job or even part time job outside of school or being a Mom. That meant we had to trust God for our electrical bill, gas, internet bill, phone bill, and food ever single month. Support from others for Joel and I decreased which we already knew, I mean come on we weren’t missionaries any more. But we still had to trust that if God told us to only go to school and stay at home then He would supply everything we needed.
Over the past four years God has provided two incredible houses, free of charge, for us to live in. Two cars to drive, both free of charge when given to us. God has always had our fridge and cupboards full, gas in our vehicle, and bills paid on time. If that wasn’t a stretch to walk by faith in, God also paid for all of Joel’s tuition and we are not in debt. And for the most part we pretty much only had a 100 dollars in our bank account most of the time. God would bring in almost the exact amount of finances for the need we had on hand each and every time. Even today as I paid Joel’s school books for the last time I found out we had money from a gift card we got a year ago on amazon and then someone had given Joel a gift card for amazon this Christmas so because of those two gift cards we only had to pay $12 for all of Joel’s books. I was in awe that once again God provided everything we need to get Joel his supplies for school. I have seen God do this when we needed gas in our car, where we didn’t have enough and yet within a day the Lord would send money for fuel. I have seen this with our bills where a bill was due in a week and we didn’t have enough but with in a day or so money would come in and we had just enough to pay it.
Time and time again over these past 4 years God has been showing me how He is truly faithful no matter if we were missionaries or lived in the “real world”. The Lord has been revealing to me that he has kept our finances at just enough to prove that He is the one and only one that knows our needs and takes care of them whether it is putting us on someones heart or a guy telling Joel he has some projects that need done and will pay him or whatever avenue the Lord chose to bring in money.
God gave me this verse from Deuteronomy 8 where he was about to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land but wanted to remind them what He did in the wilderness: Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands. 3 Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. 4 For all these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and your feet didn’t blister or swell. 5 Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.
I share this to encourage you that God is a faithful, loving, kind, gracious, providing God. If you rely on Him He will provide all you need whether a job, healing, finances, food, bills paid, relationships stored, deliverance and more. That God is not limited and He loves you so much that He wants to be your everything!

Devotion: Gifts Are Not Revoked

It has been said in the Christian culture that if you sin or do opposite of what God commands than He takes away your gifts or revokes the calling on your life. And that could not be more opposite of the truth.
Samson is the perfect example of a leader of Israel that sinned over and over again but God did not take away Samson’s God given strength or calling.
Judges 16

Devotion: Do Not Fear, God is With You

Fear is so powerful. It can over take us. When we see the enemy coming at us that is bigger, stronger, and we are out number it is easy to get swept up in fear. But God told the Israelites that do not fear when you go into Battle I am with you. And that is still true today.  When God is with you, you have nothing to fear
Deuteronomy 20

Is Cussing Really that Bad?

It’s pretty common to hearing people cuss these days.  It seems just as common to hear Christians drop a D-Bomb or any cussing bomb as well.  So is Cursing a bad thing? Is cussing really that bad.

In this video we talk the cuss words and then what the bible says about how we should use our words.  It may make you think twice on what you speak out of your mouth!

Faith for Faith

faithEvery intern is different. Every one with their unique personality, their strengths their weaknesses. I kind of always knew that but what I didn’t know is that each community event God wanted them to do would be hand-crafted just for them. God not only designed their event but he tailor-made it according to their personalities and calling they have on their lives. Mickey’s event not only reached out to the elderly but utilized kids in their giftings. Mickey’s heart is for children to know that they are called and created by God and they can be used by God even now at a young age. Jaxson’s event was to reach the homeless and less fortunate which is his heart and desire. And then there is Faith. Oh my Faithy dear God used you in incredible ways just as he did with Mickey and Jaxson.

For Faith God told her a couple of months in advance that she was going to put on a Spaghetti feed for Valentines day.  That meant having the faith for the location, food, decorations, volunteers, child care so couples can have  a romantic meal together, and people to come.  That takes a lot of faith to believe that God will do what He put on her heart to do.  A lot of people I know receive a vision or direction from God with excitement but as time ticks on they become fearful and shrink back from the task at hand.

Though there were many ups and downs to get to the event, yet by the time the day came Faith was on top of things.  I mean like really on top of things.  I got to church’s gym where the event was being held and everything was pretty much already set up.  Tables for 6 for families that wanted to dine together or couples that wanted to visit with other couples.  There were tables for 2 for those that just wanted a romantic dinner together.  Each table had white table clothes with chocolate hearts sprinkled about and a candle as the center piece.  There was romantic music playing in the back ground and the spaghetti meal cooking in the kitchen.  I don’t think anything was left undone! The volunteers were awesome as they helped with each task.  Once again God made the impossible possible. The impossible for this event was having food on a tight budge, having people come and help serve, getting fliers passed out and information on social media, and then praying God will bring in people.  Faith did her part and God certainly came through on his end.

You have to understand that the event God asks you to do is never ever EVER about you. It is about the people God is sending to receive from Him.  God loves to lavish His creation with gifts, presents, and love.  He wants people to know that He cares and has been thinking about them all along!

The people that came made the whole thing all worth it.  There was a family of 5 that came and ate together who usually serve at events the whole time instead of being served.  There was another family that enjoyed a nice meal together without worrying about dishes or meal prep.  There were couples that were able to drop their kids off and sit with other couples and have adult time with one another.  There were other couples who got to go to a table all to themselves and enjoy one anothers company. ALL FOR FREE.

The couple that touched all of our hearts the most was the one that told Faith that they had not even been married for a year. It had been such a rough year with finances and other things happening. They longed to do something special for their first valentines day together but didn’t have the funds to do so.  When they heard about the event that God and Faith were putting on they were so excited they could actually have a restaurant quality meal without paying a dime.  They were so grateful someone cared enough to do this for the community.

Now THAT, THAT is what it is all about. The people that God sends to be loved on.  If Faith didn’t have the faith to step out and do what God had place on the inside of her heart to do then none of the people that came would have had the experience they did  Thank you God for people like Faith who will to step out and say Yes Lord I am willing!

I am so proud of Faith! It was such a hard event but not only was it amazing but God was so pleased.  After each event, each intern is to go back to God and ask Him what He thought of the event.  Both Faith and I got how pleased God was and how it turned out better than  we could ever expect!  Faith learned so much and I am so pleased with with God did through her and in her.

Thank you Volunteers who came out and helped with everything. Thank you those who donated and gave of your resources.

Thank you Jesus for once again coming through and using us to Love on the community.  I am truly blown away by all you do!

Now what about you? What is God asking you to step out in faith for and believe.  Maybe not just for you and your family but for others to receive God’s love that He has for them.  It is not always easy but in the end it is ALWAYS WORTH IT!

How you view God affects how you pray

Things that make you go hm . . . .  My interns and I are reading George Muellers autobiography and it has really convicted us about our prayer lives.

I have come to realize through our study that our prayer life: how we pray and what we pray is a reflection of how we see and know God.  If we believe it he is a kind, generous, loving Father.  Then it will be easier to ask God for things.  If we see him as forgiving and merciful then when we mess up it will be easier to go to him and repent and know He will accept us with open arms.

But if we see God as angry, judgemental, unmerciful, not generous or anything else our prayers will be hindered by that perception.

So I ask you today how do you view God (good or bad) and how does that affect how you pray to God.  This isn’t a quick thought kind of answer.  Dig a little deeper and see if some view you have of God is hindering you from seeking God in a certain way. YOu may be surprised what the answer is.

Be Careful What You Say Children of God about Leaders/Rulers/Those In Authority

I have to admit I have been pretty embarrassed by my fellow Christians when it comes to this whole election business.  Especially after Trump was elected president. I became even more embarrassed by Church peoples response.

I am going to be super honest and transparent with you I had a lot more understanding for my African American Friends/Family, for my friends who are immigrants, and people of a different religion than me, namely Muslims who responded how they did.  I understand the tears, fears, and maybe even some of the words spoken after the election.  I didn’t always like some of the comments but behind those words I felt the sadness, fear, and concern for the future and I wanted with all my heart to remove that from every person who felt that way.

I have to admit I was most embarrassed about my Caucasian friends especially those who have said ignorant things or even down right un-christian  things who are true lovers of Jesus.

The Lord has really been speaking to me about this Election not so much the who should be president but what my attitude needs to be like.  How God expects His followers to act. God reminded me of the verse he gave me when President Obama was elected 8 years ago.  I can honestly say I didn’t agree with a lot of Obama’s point of views.  I didn’t like where he stood on so many subjects.  I didn’t really want Obama to be president. I had a lot on my mind and had a mouth to speak UNTIL God popped this verse out at me:

“Do not blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people.” -Exodus 22:28 (NIV)

Man that one little itty-bitty verse changed my attitude, my heart, and my mouth when it came to president Obama.  After God showed it to me I never spoke anything against My President, My President Obama.  Nope wouldn’t do it.  If I ever felt the urge to I would pray for President Obama.  That didn’t mean I was just a floor mat about the subjects of abortion, same-sex marriage, health care and other issues.  But it was always done in respect and with Honoring my president.  Just because I disagree with someone doesn’t mean I have to disrespect them.  That is not Godly, not one bit.  I didn’t tear him apart, curse his name, say horrible things I would never say to a person in the same room as me.  Even if President Obama never knows who I am I still want to honor and respect him out of Love for my God.

So where does that leave me with this election with President Trump.  Well I have to admit I had fear in my heart when I heard the news that i took straight to God.  I needed His point of view on the subject matter.  Man God spoke to my fear and gave me peace and his insight.  Not that my view changed about Trump but my view on what God saw from His throne gave me peace.  Him being in control, him having my future in his hands, Him loving Trump just as much as he loves me.  My heart and peace changed.  And that verse was just as loud 8 years ago as it is now.  You WILL NEVER EVER KNOW how I truly feel about President Trump.  I will not cures him, disrespect him, or dishonor him.  I will love and pray for Him.

Then to add the cherry to the top of the sundae in all that God was sharing with me I heard Bill Johnson preach on “Prayer that Shapes Cultures” Here is the link if you want to watch it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO713x4wOKY&t=2989s The message was the last 30 minutes of the video.  But his message was about praying for our leaders in our country, city, region. He used the scripture 1 Timothy 2:1

“I urge, then first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

The message was sooooo good I really recommend you watch it but let me highlight a few things God popped out at me as we watched the video.
1) We need to prayer for all people all but we really need to pray for leaders of our country, county, region, etc.  As of now they have limited resources of wisdom and knowledge and by praying for them we are asking God to give them an unlimited resource of the Lord’s wisdom for what they are facing each and every day.  That God will show them decisions they are about to make and what decision will have the best affect even years down the road for everyone involved.  We want their library of information that they are drawing from to have a Divine perspective straight from God’s library.
2) When I am not thankful for a person then it is hard to honor that person which makes it hard to respect and even pray for that person.  The verse says thanksgiving made for all people. We are called to Honor everyone but if we can’t even thank God for something about that person we won’t be able to.  We have to ask God to help us be thankful and show us what we can be thankful for in that person.
3) This isn’t a one time prayer session this is a commitment to continue to pray for our leaders.
4) And last when change in the leader starts to happen it is like a green house effect.  Where in a green house the climate is changed and made to at the perfect temp, the atmosphere is at the perfect moister all to make it easier for things to grow.  Laws will be changed, peace will come about and joy will be shared by all. And it will make it easier for seeds of God to planted and people to know the Lord better.

Now those 4 things I just explained didn’t do the message justice but I hope you get the gist.  It is time my fellow Christians to STOP putting your mouth on our leaders. To stop trying to find fault in them because you don’t like them.  It is time to stop looking or acting like those who do not believe in Christ by cursing our leaders and yes that includes our new president.  Your “Cursing” is displeasing to God.  It is not honoring.  Just like when God says Honor your Mother and Father and it will go well with you.  God never gave the stipulation that if your Parents were good parents then you  could honor them.  No that commandment is for children with either good or bad parents, they must all be honored.  God didn’t say if the ruler is good then don’t cures them.  No any leader, any king, any ruler is not to be cursed.  You are to pray, honor and even find things to be thankful for in them.

No you can’t control how leaders act, no you can’t control if they are a good or bad rulers all you can control is your mouth, attitude, actions, and heart.  And God calls us to be his sons and daughters: to love like him, to honor like him, and to not curse like him.  What does the bible say to bless those who insult you, to pray for those who misuse you.  To always love even when you are hated.  It sucks and it is hard but it is what God has called us, his children to do.

Be careful what you say Children of God.  Be careful what you say!
